A group of us recently started a Faith Academy group on Linkedin.com. The group is called the group “Faith Academy – Philippines”. For those of you already on Linkedin, you should have no problem finding us. For the rest of you, let me tell you what Linkedin is and why you might want to join.
Linkedin is like a professional version of Facebook. Facebook is predominantly social and most activities revolve around pictures of the kids and pets or friends pretending to be in the Mafia. Linkedin will feel structurally similar, but your connections will be professional or business related. Your profile on Linkedin is like a mini-resume.
I have heard that one reason the Harvard Alumni Network is so valuable is because they are usually eager to help each other out and return each others’ messages. I bring that up because I think Faith has a similar untapped dynamic. For example, I would be much more interested in helping a Faith alum professionally, than an alum from my undergraduate university. Maybe that is because I went to a big school, but I don’t think I’m alone.
Here are a few benefits to joining the Faith Academy group on Linkedin.com. If you were moving to another city, you could see if there were any alumni there in your field. Chances are they would be happy to help you out – maybe even make some introductions for your job search. If you are a recent college grad and would like to find a mentor in your cho- sen field, a Faith alumni might be just the right person. If you are trying to get into a grad- uate program, you might find a former student who attended there. If you need a lawyer or web developer to help start a business, you could network among fellow alumni. If you are looking for a job at a specific firm, there may be someone there who could get your resume to the right person. The list could go on and on.
In order for any of these things to really work well, we need a lot of you to sign up. I hope you will consider signing into the Faith Academy group on Linkedin.
