Welcome to English class
with Mrs. Nagy!

The winding down of summer is always a little sad, but the beginning of the school year is also exciting (don't even pretend you aren't at least a little excited to see all your friends again). Speaking of the start of school, don't forget your summer work! Slick the "Summer Work" blue link to your left for more information. Don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Nagy if you have any questions (see bottom of this page for contact information)!

Supplies needed (you will need these starting Monday, August 22nd):

  • Pack of 3X5 notecards OR a flashcard making app on your personal device
  • Single subject notebook (for English things only - this will be turned in from time to time)
  • Folder or binder
  • Writing utensils (either pen or pencil is fine, but do make sure you have some in a non-traditional color for editing and annotating)

Genre review instructions - READ THIS BEFORE CLICKING!

Understanding the basic literary genres will help you a ton in choosing books that interest you for independent reading. To review the genres we will use Study Stacks. This website will include a list of the terms and their definitions, flashcards of the terms that you can click through, and games you can play to help you practice with the terms.

  1. Click through the flashcards first and categorize them by the terms you know and don't know.
  2. Then click "retry" under your "Don't Know" pile until you know the terms well.
  3. Play a couple of the games of your choice (they are listed below the flashcards).
  4. If you don't do well in the game, go back to the flashcards and study some more.

You will be quizzed on these terms later!
