Holy Moly it's May!!

Our last unit will be on Early Civilizations:

Mesopotamia: The "Cradle of Civilization"

  • Importance of the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers
  • Development of writing
  • Early code of laws
Ancient Egypt
  • Geography-Africa, Sahara Desert, Nile river
  • Pharaohs-Tutankhamun, Hatshepsut
  • Pyramids, mummies, animal gods, Sphinx
  • Writing-hieroglyphics
I can't believe we only have 18 school days left.  There will be a lot of activities and events going on over the next few weeks.  Please check Friday Folders and emails to keep informed until the end of the year.

  • May 10-First Grade-Field Study: Denver Museum-Nature & Science-PARENT VOLUNTEERS NEEDED (Including Planetarium-Destination Solar System)
  • May 14-NO SCHOOL-Teacher work day
  • May 23-K & 1 Field Day-9:00-11:00-Invited to attend

Reinforcement Ideas for Home:

  • Please help and support your child's responsibility for homework and the good practice of returning it to school! 
  • Looking at: Family Times/Refrigerator Copy for ideas: Practice spelling and HFW words for the dictation tests on Fridays
  • Reading practice-use the raz kids app for leveled books
  • Read a book and have book discussions: characters, setting, problem, solution to problem, main idea, sequential retell-beginning, middle, end 
  • Practice counting to 100/Skip counting by 2's, 5's, 10's to 100
  • Coin recognition, value, and counting a mixed group of coins
  • Practice addition and subtraction facts for automaticity
