Kindergarten News

Friday Folders:  Thank you for reading the information presented in your child’s Friday Folder.  Please review the folder content each week and return the empty folder each Monday.

Volunteers:  We welcome volunteer help in the classroom.  Please think about what day of the week and time works best for you, and we will try to work it into our schedule.  We are in particular need of volunteers from 8:30 a.m. -10:00 a.m. each day during Guided Reading. We are also looking for parents to commit to every Friday afternoon to do Friday Folders.  To facilitate volunteer sign-up, we use a program called Sign-Up Genius.  Soon you will receive an email with the Sign-up Genius link.

Homework:  Please check your child’s backpack and Friday Folder for homework. Since homework is differentiated to meet each student’s needs, your child may have daily or may have occasional homework. Daily homework for all children includes reading with, and to, your child. Projects can also be found at the bottom of the Happenings page under  homework assignments.or at

Snack:  We have snack time every afternoon.  Please send healthy snacks that your child can eat quickly, as snack time is only 10 minutes.  Juice, milk, soda and other colored drinks are not allowed in the classroom as they stain the carpet.  Children are not allowed to share snacks.  Please refer to the Parent Student Handbook for the school’s recommended snack list.

Water Bottles:  Remind your child to take his/her water bottle home each Friday to clean.  Please send only water bottles your child can open and close independently and that are short enough to fit into our sinks.

Specials:  Your child will have Music, Art, P.E., Library/Technology and Spanish on a five-day rotation.  Students need appropriate gym shoes and water bottles each day they have P.E.  Please check Mrs. Pezzulo's web page for that schedule.  A color-coded Specials schedule went home in Friday Folders.

Items from Home:  Toys and other distractions are not allowed at school.  Please make sure your child is not bringing these items to school as they get lost, broken, etc., and interfere with learning.  Periodically, teachers assign homework that requires students to bring in items from home.  Parents will be notified of those occasions and the rules regarding those specific items.  Although Show-and-Tell is not a regular part of our curriculum, children have the opportunity to practice their oral language skills in a variety of ways throughout the school year.

Scholastic Book Orders:    With Scholastic, parents will have the opportunity to order from a variety of Scholastic Book Clubs throughout the year.  Teachers receive points for free items for the classroom with each order parents place.  Orders can be placed online or with order forms returned to school with payment.  Watch for the order forms in your child’s Friday Folder.

Change of Clothing:  Please remember to send a complete change of clothing with your child if you have not already done so.  Accidents happen.  Thank you.
