The Perils of Prototyping

This presentation addresses why I think the economics of a light weight prototypic method may not work out under some circumstances. This bears on some of the issues I have with Agile/Scrum/XP. When I have captured enough data from these specific types of projects I will update the paper to include that information. I use the Cleanroom Software Engineering method as an example of a heavy weight method. And while Cleanroom can produce very high quality systems, one metric is difficult to ignore... Agile has an army of followers while Cleanroom would have trouble filling a phone booth. Cleanroom is extremely hard to learn and use on real world projects.
