WELCOME TO EBES!

Edna Beaman Elementary School is a preschool-5th grade school located in a rural, isolated, southeast corner of Mono County on Highway 6.  This year the school has an enrollment of approximately 31 students and is one of four elementary school sites in the Eastern Sierra Unified School District.  With such a small enrollment, Edna Beaman is able to offer a more "one-on-one" teacher-student environment than other surrounding schools.  Each class is triple-graded (with the exception of the preschool), with one teacher: Transitional Kindergarten, Kindergarten, First and Second Grades with Mrs. Patterson; and Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades with Ms. Ice.  The next closest elementary school in the district is located in Lee Vining, more than 45 miles away.  There are two other schools outside the district that are closer to Edna Beaman Elementary, both located in Bishop, California.

Edna Beaman serves the communities of Chalfant Valley, Hammil Valley, Benton and surrounding areas, and maintains strong economic and cultural ties to the Bishop community, 39 miles to the south.  Since Bishop is the closest largely populated area, most of the parents whose children attend school at Edna Beaman are employed in, and do most of their shopping in, the Bishop area.  The major occupations for parents of Edna Beaman students include, but are not limited to, farm and ranch workers, tourist oriented and county occupations, as well as state and federal service organizations and privately owned businesses.

Although severely isolated, students at Edna Beaman Elementary are still able to participate in school-organized flag football against teams within our district and participate in other community organizations such as 4-H, summer cheerleading, pee-wee football, and local horse show events.
