Welcome!
The following College Prep Math Course was designed in compliance with the legislation of House Bill 5 as well as part of the fulfillment of the Academic Vertical Alignment Training and Renewal grant (AVATAR). This course was developed through the collaboration of both secondary and post-secondary educators with the guidance of Region 7 Education Service Center.
This course was created to assist students as they ready themselves for the math portion of the Texas Success Initiative Exam (TSI) encouraging problem solving and transfer of knowledge. Written in a project and problem based format, this course requires students to think at levels beyond knowledge and comprehension as they work through the lessons.
When working in the course instructors will find the problems and projects classified by the four major topics of the TSI. These topics include Elementary Algebra and Functions, Intermediate Algebra and Functions, Geometry and Measurement, and Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability. Each project has a Topics and TEKS page which will allow instructors to have a general idea of the mathematical concepts covered. The number of projects as well as the order of project completion will be at the teachers’ discretion based on student needs. The partnering college and/or university should also be included in instructional decisions.
The intent of this course, perhaps different than most online courses, is for teachers to review student data, make assignments accordingly, and then monitor and adjust. Scaffolding of instruction may need to occur during projects depending upon needs. Many assignments offer ideas for support. The course was not written for students to self-select activities based on their own interest. We hope you find the resources offered beneficial as your students prepare for success as they move forward in their academic pathway.
