Computer Recommendation for Incoming Students

Parents have asked what type of computer they should purchase for students in high school.  It is highly recommended that incoming students purchase Chromebooks, since ERA is a Google Apps for Education School, and Chromebooks work very well in our environment and are very reasonably priced.

Students may bring other devices such as laptops and tablets, however, iPads and iPods are not recommended as they are problematic with Google Apps for Education and our wireless system.

At this time, students are not allowed to connect cell phones to the ERA network.

Currently, Windows 10s devices are NOT recommended as they do not allow the Chrome Browser to be loaded on the device. If you wish to use a Windows 10s device, you will have to purchase and install Windows 10 Professional on the device.

A recommended Chromebook model is the Asus Chromebook C202, as it is extremely rugged, has a spill resistant keyboard and is very easy to repair if a student should break the screen. It also allows students to edit Microsoft Office documents.

Students will need to complete the BYOT Form online.

And the Acceptable Computer Use Policy form online

Students will also need to install the Securly SSL certificate on their device. The Securly SSL allows students to browse the internet safely and securely.
