Health Insurance

  • General insurance information provided by the coordination:
Marsh Insurance Scheme (Mandatory for students with Erasmus Mundus Scholarships and recommended for other students):       For EM scholarship recipients, Marsh Insurance is paid for by the consortium.  The agreement covers two years of studies and is renewed each year for the new cohort of students.

The QEM Consortium has signed an agreement with the insurance company:

The EMIS 2 contract provides each student with an insurance scheme fully compliant with EACEA minimum requirements (accidental death, permanent invalidity due to an accident, costs of treatments following an accident/sickness, assistance to persons, and civil liability). Click here for more information.
  • Local insurance information provided by Venice:
European and EU-equated students:  The Italian National Health Service provides coverage for all necessary care if a student has a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) issued by his/her EU national health authority. EU students who do not have this card should contact the health service in their home country prior to departure to secure healthcare coverage extended to Italy.

Non-European students:  Students must provide evidence of health insurance when applying for the Stay Permit.
Students without Health Insurance can:

  • obtain a consular statement confirming that they are entitled to medical care based on an agreement between Italy and their home country;
  • get a private health insurance policy in their home country, and obtain a statement of its validity for Italy from the relevant Italian Consulate; such a statement must also contain the length and type of services covered and it must confirm that the contract does not imply any limitations of or exceptions for any charge for urgent hospitalization during the time period it may be necessary;
  • get a health insurance policy with an Italian company such as Istituto Nazionale delle Assicurazioni (INA), which offers a special insurance policy to cover medical assistance.
