What is PowerSchool?
Powerschool provides access to your child’s grades in each course.
If you do NOT have a PowerSchool account, please contact Lynne Bonavenia (203) 938 - 2508 at extension 1549 or email Lynne at lbonavenia@er9.org
Should I always click on the course grade to see the detail behind it? YES!
It is always important to view the detail level behind the grade. For example, the student below scored a “B” on his/her October unit test, but subsequently did not do the next two homework assignments. This will probably impact this student’s next unit test grade. To be proactive, always click on the course grade to see your child’s individual grades, and whether or not he/she is completing homework assignments.
How are grades calculated?
It is important to note that methods of grade calculation vary from discipline to discipline. Math course grades are based on a weighted average.
To provide feedback with the least impact to the overall grades, homework and quiz grades are weighted at 10% and 20% respectively. The goal of homework preparation and quiz grade feedback is to ensure that students are fully prepared for the summative tests which are weighted at 70%. Although homework and quiz grades are reflective of preparation, unit test grades indicate mastery of unit contents.
Are your emails up-to-date in Powerschool?
Teachers frequently send email blast to both parents and students with important class information. To update your email accounts, once you have a PowerSchool account, click on this link: Powerschool account to make sure the account is accurate and current. You can enter multiple emails (work, home, etc).
Are your receiving Optional Email detail status?
Parents may request detail emails updates, as shown below. These snapshots are difficult to fully understand without context.
We recommend using the PowerSchool Summary and detail screens which tell the entire story. We encourage email communication with teachers; however it is best to first have a conversation with your child. We recommend that you and your child review the main PowerSchool screen and click on the individual grade to see ALL the individual grades posted.
