          User Interface Based on Optical Sensor

Background:

    Cubic Transportation Systems would like to evaluate how the STmicro VL6180X proximity sensor can enhance the user interface in our products. The VL6180X Time-of-Flight precisely measures the time the light takes to travel to the nearest object and reflect back to the sensor (sub-nanosecond accuracy). http://www.st.com/web/catalog/mmc/FM132/CL2136/SC1934/PF260441?sc=VL6180X


Project Objective:

The project will use an evaluation board based on a low power ARM Cortex M0 processor.  The project should accomplish the following:

(1) Evaluate the optical time-of-flight sensor accuracy and sensitivity under all operating conditions.
(2) Develop software on the evaluation board for interface to a custom designed sensor PCB.
(3) Design, layout and build a sensor PCB with multiple VL6180 sensors.
(4) Develop software for the sensor PCB to test user interface functionality for use in existing products.
