Grading Policy:

Each team will be assigned a team grade for the overall accomplishments, effort and creativity of the design and implementation of the project, as judged through the presentations, design review, and final report.

This grade may be adjusted up or down one notch (for example, a B+ going up one notch to an A-) based on the quality of the final report (comprehensiveness, English correctness) and based on the team aspects of public speaking (correct slide design, organization).

Additionally, each student's grade can be adjusted individually up or down from the team grade based on a combination of the mentor's individual evaluation, peer evaluation, and participation.

  • Each student is expected to spend at least 10 hours per week on this course, most of which is spent directly working on the project (there's not too much lecture time).

  • Contact the mentor on Friday September 28 after your group project is assigned.

  • Establish the Statement of Work and present it in week 1 or 2

  • Give a team presentation about 3-4 times per quarter using PowerPoint (send a copy of the presentation to the TA, who will post it on the web)

  • Design Review in weeks 5 and 6 (30-minute review for each team)

  • Rehearsal for final presentation in week 10  (December 3 to 7)

  • Final presentations will be held on Friday December 14.  The scheduled time is 8 to 11, but we will likely end up using either 8 to 10 or else 9 to 11 (we will check on the schedules of our sponsors from industry).  A nice breakfast/brunch will be served.

  • By Thursday December 13 by 5pm: turn in the final presentation slides and the peer evaluation form (electronic to TA), also turn in software deliverables to the sponsor (cc TA) along with the final report (electronic to instructor, sponsor, TA). During the presentation, hand in hardcopies of the final report to the instructor and the sponsor.

  • Turn over hardware deliverables to sponsor on the final presentation day.
