Automotive Sensor Module

Background:

Cubic Transportation Systems would like to design a module that collects a multitude of environmental and operational parameters on a vehicle, such as a city bus. The project will use ultra-small, cheap microelectromechanical sensors (MEMS). Example:




Project Objective:
                                                                               

The project will use an evaluation board based on an ARM Cortex processor.  The project should accomplish at least the first 4 of the following tasks:

(1) Investigate and select a number of sensors, such as MEMS sensors for temperature, humidity, acceleration, vibration and sound pressure.

(2) Design, layout and build a sensor PCB that interfaces to the evaluation board through an SPI and/or I2C interface.

(3) Develop software on the evaluation board for interfacing to the sensor PCB.

(4) Implement data-logging to a uSD card on the evaluation board. This SW can be based on an existing Cubic SW design.

(5) Develop software for Ethernet functionality so the evaluation board can act as a simple web-server displaying the captured sensor data.

(6) Test the setup on a city bus.
