Course Description

Axioms of Probability, Conditional Probability, Theorem of Total Probability, Random Variables, Probability Distributions and Densities, Expected Values, Characteristic Functions, Transformation of Random Variables, Central Limit Theorem. Engineering Reliability, elements of estimation.

Prerequisites: Math 20A-B-C or 21C, 20D or 21D, 20F, with grades of C– or better. ECE 101 recommended. 


Probability, Statistics, and Random Processes For Electrical Engineering (3rd Edition), Alberto Leon-Garcia. We will cover most of the topis in chapters one through five.

Course Requirements and Grading

  • Homework assignments 20%): Homework will normally be assigned each Wednesday and due the following Monday in class

  • Midterm exam (30%): February 12th. Closed book, no notes, in class. Sample midterm.
