Welcome to Fifth Grade

Mrs. Gehring's Class

SO GLAD TO HAVE YOU HERE!

I just want to take a quick moment to introduce myself and let you know a tiny bit about what to expect this year and fifth grade. I am so excited to work with both you and your children this year to make it a growth filled, rewarding experience.

This is my 10th year teaching at Emmons School. I started as a 3rd grade teacher here, but moved to 5th grade in 2014.

A little about me: I am a proud alumnus of Iowa State University (Go Cyclones), and have also received degrees from the University of Cincinnati, and Roosevelt University. I have always had a deep interest in public service and helping children that has guided most of my life. In addition to my love of teaching in a school setting, I also teach ballet, tap, and jazz at a dance studio as well as choreograph and teach skills for a color guard. I live at home with my husband and two sons and my faithful dog, "Pug Pug." I enjoy spending time outdoors and hiking any National Park I can get to.

This year, I will strive to challenge your child and create meaningful learning experiences. I will hold them accountable for their work and behaviors in class, and support them in any way to make it a successful year. Natalia Klocek, the other 5th grade teacher, and I have been working hard to prepare for this exciting year.  We are definitely a fifth grade team, as we will be seeing your children equally.  Ms. Klocek will be teaching ELA and Social Studies, while I will be teaching Math and Science.   We are both here to support you and your child in any way possible!

5th grade is a big year full of growing academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. I am fully committed to doing everything in my power to guide your child in having a

positive, successful year.  We will be sending home weekly newsletters to keep you apprised of what we are doing in our classrooms, and updating the students myHomework app in order for them to keep on top of their work.  In addition, please feel free to contact me anytime! The best ways to reach me are by phone before or after school hours, or by email. My contact information is listed below.

I look forward to seeing you at the Picnic and School Supply drop off Tuesday, August 21 from 4:30-6:30pm.

Thank you in advance for your support this year. I look forward to working together to make this a great year for you and your child!
