Steps to follow for mailings

Mailings to raise financial support
A good starting point for most teams beginning to raise financial support is preparation of a mailing that goes to everyone in the team’s potential support network.

First and second mailings
  • Create a list of all potential ministry partners     family members, friends, colleagues, neighbors     that includes names and mailing addresses.
  • Write a letter describing the vision for the assignment and a short story of the team's response to God’s call in the assignment.
  • Create a response form (See a sample response form that will help you get started here.) Include spaces for the partner's name and contact information, how they would like to partner, and what amount they would like to give and print.
  • Mail the team's letter and the response form to all potential partners. Plan a party for stuffing envelopes and spend time in prayer, asking God to supply the needed ministry partners.
  • Three weeks later, send a one-page newsletter/update about the journey toward the assignment to all those who received the first mailing (by email to as many people as possible to save on postage).
These mailings benefit everyone:
  • The team develops a regular rhythm of communicating with ministry partners.
  • Ministry partners see progress toward full financial support.
Additional updates
In your updates, make sure to include photos of training events, other preparations for the field, and current ministry activity, along with text about what God is doing in the team during this time of preparation. Invite different supporters to write a paragraph or two of invitation, and consider using creative visuals to show progress toward the goal of full financial support, along with the remaining need.

Every time your support network grows, make sure the new supporters are well thanked!

Continue to talk with God about the support raising process and to trust Him to help you find and develop the ministry partners the mission requires.

Very importantly, celebrate when full spiritual, relational, and financial support is in place with another big thank you to all supporters!
