Welcome to Mrs. Valla's Class!

Mrs. Katie Valla

My name is Mrs. Valla and I will be your child’s first grade teacher. This is my eighth year teaching at Memorial School and I am very excited about what this school year holds!  I graduated from the University of Scranton with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. I then received a Master’s degree in Literacy Education from Fordham University. First grade is an exciting time for children as they embark upon new adventures in the world of learning. Your child will continue to learn to read, write stories, problem solve, and explore his/her imagination! I am looking forward to a very exciting and productive year with your child. I will do my best to make learning a fun and enriching experience! I look forward to meeting you and your child and working together to ensure his/her success!

Please feel free to contact me at any time with any questions or concerns throughout the school year.

Our class will be splitting for Specials this year into the other 3 first grade classes. I will be sending home your child's Specials schedule on Thursday.

*Please wear sneakers for Gym.

**Please return Library books each week.

Scholastic book orders are sent home monthly. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to order "just right" leveled books for your child to read at home. When you place an order, our class earns points that I can use towards new books for our classroom library!

You have the option of ordering online, using the following link:

Please be sure to enter our class code: JLXQW

If you would rather send the order into school, please make sure all checks are made payable to Scholastic Reading Club. Cash will not be accepted.
