Dear Parents,

Please be sure to return The Family Celebration forms,  including the number of adults attending, so we can finalize the setup.    I am sending home a heart for a family art project.  Please look at the directions and return it by January 29th.  I'd like to thank our Star of the Week's family for reading the story and making the masks with the class.  The class enjoyed the activity.  Have a great weekend.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

Dear Parents,

I am sending home Guided Reading books tonight.  Please allow them the opportunity to share the book with you.  I am also sending home the 2nd Red Word book.  Please go back to the book often to review these words.  There are two Home Link assignments that went home today, they do not need to be completed tonight.  The first is about playing an I Spy game with shapes and the other is about building teen numbers.  Lastly, we are writing non fiction in class.  The students each choose a topic that they were an "expert" at.  Please talk to them about their topic.  Some of the students have great ideas.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

Dear Parents,

Yesterday in class, we were discussing some ideas of what is fair and what isn't fair.  The class had an excellent discussion!  We followed the discussion with the story The Man with a Dream.  The students then wrote about a dream that they wish would come true.  I was amazed at the range of ideas that he class wrote about.  I am sending home the story today.  Please allow your child the opportunity to share the story with you.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

Dear parents,

Our class has been working on sounding out words on their own.  So far, they have practiced stretching out words and using an alphabet chart.  Today, they learned how to chunk words into shorter pieces, then they sounded out the shorter piece.  You may hear them clapping out some words while practicing chunking them.   I'm sending home a Everyday Math Homelink about number stories.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

Suggested snacks:

Fresh Fruits, Raw Vegetables, Raisins,  Popcorn, Dried Fruits, Animal Crackers, Cheese, Plain Yogurt,  Pretzels, Crackers, Breadsticks, or Graham Crackers

If your child continually brings home part of his/her snack, consider sending less. Kindly peel, cut, and wash snack items before sending them to school.

Here is a copy of the Red Word list that we are using this year.

Our class discussed three ways to read a book this week:
1.  look at the pictures
2.  make a story to go along with the pictures.
3.  read the words.

Speaking of reading, many students have been logging onto Raz Kids over the last few days.  Each Monday morning, I will be giving out "Raz Kids Awards"  to the students who completes the most books over each weekend.

In writing, we began using this ABC chart to help them find the sounds that match the words in their stories.  Please use this same chart at home and encourage your child to find the sounds.  I am sending home a writing piece that we worked on today.  Many students stretched out their sounds and did a great job at writing the right letters.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman
