Dear Parents,

Mrs. Gagliano finished her Social Skills lesson on "Glitch, Bummer, and Disaster" in our classroom today. Students identified if a situation was one of those three choices. Please discuss with your children if a situation is a glitch, bummer, or disaster.

As the class is getting better at sounding out words, I have been introducing a new skill called chunking. The students clap out a word and identify each syllable. Then they try to spell each part. They use this to spell larger words.

Have a great weekend.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

2-7-19

Dear Parents,

I am sending home Guided Reading books tonight. Please allow your child the time to share the book with you. I am also sending home a Write the Room, Dot to Dot, and a meditation shaker that we made in school today.

Please see below, this is what I read to the class.

“Imagine that the glitter is like your thoughts when you’re stressed, mad or upset. See how they whirl around and make it really hard to see clearly? That’s why it’s so easy to make silly decisions when you’re upset – because you’re not thinking clearly. Don’t worry this is normal and it happens in all of us (yep, grownups too).

[Now put the jar down in front of them.]

Now watch what happens when you’re still for a couple of moments. Keep watching. See how the glitter starts to settle and the water clears? Your mind works the same way. When you’re calm for a little while, your thoughts start to settle and you start to see things much clearer” (Karen Young, 2017).

Thanks,

Kris Lechman
