When your child is struggling with a word, please do not give it to them immediately. Please give them clues like sounding the word out or using the picture clues to figure out the word. 10-17-18

Dear Parents,

We are beginning a writing unit on personal narratives. I read a story to the class about a family who took a vacation to their Grandmother's house every summer. I also shared a story about my vacation. While the students had a very good grasp of the idea of their writing, they had trouble adding details to their story. Many students began their story like mine "I went on vacation to ..." but they struggled adding more. Please have a conversation with them and ask them to describe what happened to them, or what they did, or what they saw...

I am sending home Book a Day books today, please be sure to return them tomorrow.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

Book a Day

Please share the book with them and be sure to return it the next day every day. Even if you do not get to the book, please be sure to return the book the next day. The students give the book to the next person each day. I am trying to teach the students to incorporate it into their routine of unpacking in the morning.

Thanks,

Kris Lechman

9-25-18

We have been working on letter formation of our first letter group. This week we are working on letters, C, O, A, D, and G. They are grouped this way because their lowercase letters are all formed by starting in the same spot.

A few students have been bringing their Brain Break towels in a 1 gallon bag. Please do not send it in that bag. The kindergarten students cannot put their towel back into the bag and it breaks. Please send them in with an extra large ziploc bag.

Each student in Kindergarten has their own writing folder.  Their folders are where they store all of their writing work.  We are sending home the writing folders today to be personalized by each student.  We encourage our students to write about “what they love or what they know a lot about.”

We ask you to help your child decorate their writing folders while reflecting on those ideas.  Please include people, places, or things. Your child can cut out pictures and glue them on or draw on the folders.  Please return the folder on Tuesday, September 25.

Please note that all of the writing folders have three writing assignments in their folder.  You can keep these papers at home and have your child share the story behind their writing.

Thanks,
