TEGA Fest is Coming Up!

TEGA Fest is on its way: are you ready to play?

TEGA Fest is a 3-day festival event dedicated to celebrating the diverse talents and skills of the students of TEGA. Think interactive TED Talks for Theatre Ed, or the funnest, chillest theatre education conference this side of the Mississippi - only better, because it's totally free! 

TEGA Fest will take place over March 16th-18th in the Cabaret Theatre and throughout the Emerson campus. Expect to learn with your cohort, work with some incredible guest artists, and show off your talents with a Hidden Talent Show. We'll be announcing the specific line-up soon, so for now, mark those dates on your calendar! You won't want to miss out on the fun.

We are currently taking submissions for skill shares, performances, and student-led workshops! Sign up by going to http://bit.ly/tegafest2017 and filling out that form. Submissions are due by February 17th.

2017 TEGA Board Nominations

Calling all First Years!

The time has come to nominate candidates for the next TEGA board!

In order to serve as a TEGA representative, students must be enrolled in the Theatre Education program and able to serve a full term. The next term will begin at the end of the Fall 2016 semester and will continue for one full calendar year.

You may self-nominate or nominate another student by writing to tega@emerson.edu with the subject line TEGA Board Nomination. In the body of the email, please include the name of the candidate and a preferred email address, if you have it. Once nominations are received, we will reach out to the candidate to ask if they accept the nomination.

Nominees are asked to prepare a platform which will be posted on the TEGA website for your review. Nominations will close on December 8. Platforms should be no longer than 1 page, and should describe your qualifying experiences and skills that could serve TEGA, as well as any ideas or plans you have for the future of the organization. Once you accept your nomination, please email your platform to tega@emerson.edu no later than December 9. 

Elections will occur via online ballot beginning December 10 and closing December 14 at midnight. The new board will be announced at the TEGA Yule Ball on December 16 (details to come!).

Get Ready for TEGA Fest!

Become a part of Emerson's first-ever TEGA Fest!

TEGA Fest is a 2-day mini conference for Emerson Theatre Ed students to present, collaborate, and share our knowledge and talents! Examples of sessions YOU could lead for your peers are:

- Trying out that process drama you've been developing
- Leading a session in basic tap
- Singing a song or delivering a monologue
- Performing a scene with friends
- Playing a new theatre game
- .....or anything else you'd like to share!

If you don't have the time to present, please attend for FREE and support your fellow teachers/artists, and learn from a few professional and faculty presentations as well! And the best part....LUNCH IS PROVIDED!

Sign up now for the Cabaret

This year's TEGA Cabaret is themed "Love & Hate (in the Times of Influenza)". We are looking for people who are interested in performing an approximately 3-7 minute piece (i.e. dance, song, scene. monologue) that fits into the theme of this year's Cabaret.

The Nuts and Bolts:

- Pieces can be any length up to 7 minutes.
- A person can be apart of 2 group pieces, 1 group and 1 solo piece, or 1 solo piece.
- We will not be able to provide a piano at the performance; pieces with music must provide a track playable by an iPod.
- The Cabaret will be held on Sunday, April 28th in the afternoon, with a tech rehearsal immediately before the show and a dress rehearsal on Sunday, April 21st.
- Each piece will be self-rehearsed; rehearsals will be held at the artist's convenience. Each piece must schedule at least 1-2 rehearsals that the producers can attend to check in with you/the group.
- You can edit this form after you have turned it in, if you need to change details about the piece or its participants.

We are hoping to get permission to have the proceeds of the show go to charity, so we will be looking for help in other aspects besides performing.

Master Class with Robbie McCauley

TEGA is proud to offer a master class with retiring Emerson College professor, Robbie McCauley. The workshop, "Principles of Making Work from Story Circles, Thoughts and Practice," will be offered on Thursday, February 28 from 3:00-5:45pm in the Greene Theatre. Student Production Fund

The Student Production Fund was donated by an Emerson parent in the fall of 2011 exclusively to help finance student-run productions, both undergraduate and graduate. There was $50,000; $25,000 now remains. In order to qualify for a grant, your production must involve at least 2/3 Emerson students, and the maximum amount you can request is $5,000. More specific guidelines about the fund and proposal forms to apply for funding from it can be found on the 5th floor of Tufte, in the reception area of the Performing Arts office. Proposals should be submitted the semester prior to your production going up. Applications for summer and fall 2013 productions will be accepted between 2/15/13 and 3/15/13. For questions about the fund, please email Jason Allen at jason_allen@emerson.edu.

1st Spring TEGA Open Forum(s)

We invite all past and current Emerson theatre education graduate students to meet their new TEGA representatives and voice their opinion about the state of TEGA and the theatre education graduate program at the first Open Forums of the semester.

In an effort to increase accessibility, we are offering TWO Open Forums for students to attend; you are welcome to attend one or both! The open forums will be held on:

- February 14th at 3PM in the Campus Center Room 118
- February 16th at 1PM in Walker 417

FREE SNACKS will be provided for those in attendance! Come on out and have your voice be heard!
