A Living Lutheran Legacy & The Troutman-Gordy Atrium

A Living Lutheran Legacy
is a partnership between the ELCA Southeastern Synod and St. John's, Atlanta, GA. More specifically, it represents the Synod's planned move of its offices to St. John's. After years of occupying office space downtown, the sale of the Woodruff Volunteer Center, where the office is currently located, and a need to decrease what we currently spend on rent and parking, compelled the Synod Council to evaluate office space options. St. John's has been seeking a tenant and ministry partner so that it can continue to be a rich resource in the community it serves.  The architectural rendering above presents our vision of the new Synod office at St. John's!

A Living Lutheran Legacy honors Bishop Troutman and Bishop Gordy
Both the Southeastern Synod and St. John’s are especially excited that the new addition which will be built as part of the new Synod office will be named the Troutman-Gordy Atrium!  It is shown above on the left with the red doors as the entrance to the new Synod office. The Rev. Dr. Gerald S. Troutman (left) served as a pastor at St. John’s and as bishop of the LCA Southeastern Synod.
The Rev. H. Julian Gordy (right) served as an intern at St. John’s and now
serves in his second term as bishop of the ELCA Southeastern Synod. Both have been beloved leaders who have inspired and encouraged us as people of faith. We are thrilled to be honoring them in this way and formally marking their legacy in our life as church together.

You can help this dream become a reality and honor the work of Bishops Troutman and Gordy by making a financial contribution today!  Click the "Give Now" button below to make a donation using a check or credit card. One-time gifts and three year pledges are welcome!

Donations and pledges can also be sent directly to the Synod office at PO Box 400, Decatur, GA 30031.

A Living Lutheran Legacy increases funding for mission and ministry
In addition to honoring Bishops Troutman and Gordy, moving the Synod office to St. John's will enable us to increase mission support by significantly reducing our costs for rent and parking.  Our current monthly cost for rent and parking is just over $7,000.  We will cut that almost in half in our lease with St. John's.  The savings enables us to keep more mission support dollars for mission and ministry.  Increased mission support dollars will enable the Southeastern Synod to:
  • revitalize congregations
  • start new ministries
  • prepare new leaders and reduce seminary debt
  • prepare for and respond to disasters
  • support our ministry partners
Thanks to the generosity of our donors, we have raised just over $350,000 in gifts and pledges!

To discuss contribution opportunities, please contact John and Ellen Yates at jyates@mmmlaw.com or 404-504-5444 or Bishop H. Julian Gordy at bishop@elca-ses.org or 404-589-1977.
