House Van Rensburg

A young professional couple with two small children bought a stand in Stoneridge Country Estate, a security housing estate in the south of Tshwane. They wanted an economical, practical house with lots of space for the children to grow up in. They furthermore wanted to add a granny flat, which although visually part of the main house, will enable the grandmother to live a separate life, should she wish to.

The floor plan is open plan to maximise the feeling of living space. Loft areas were added to the bedrooms to give the children retreat areas when they become teenagers.

The house is situated on the far south end of the stand. All the living-areas and bedrooms, except for the guest room, look out on to the sunny garden on the north side.

EKIS Architects designed a spacious four-bedroom, three-bathroom house, with a study, TV room, lounge, “braaikamer”, dining-area, kitchen, scullery, separate granny’s flat and three garages, all fitted into 400 square metres – no mean achievement.
