House Stubbe

A newly-wed couple bought a 700m² stand in a security estate in Lydenburg. They wanted to build a smallish starter-home for a young family.

The design of the house is based on the Pelgrimsrus-style (S-profile sink metal roof at a steep slope, gable walls and bay windows with red brick plinths).

Green design: As Lydenburg can get very cold in winter, the roof was well insulated. The west and south walls are insulated cavity walls. Solar panel under-floor heating was installed in the greater part of the house. The north-facing patio is enclosed with folder-stacker doors and acts as a warm and sunny living- and entertainment area in winter.

This is a marvellous design, as it gives lots of living space despite a small floor area.
