House Bester

Bert Bester bought a beautiful stand in a pristine bushveld environment next to a water-hole. He wanted to build a weekend house for him, his wife and their teenage daughter –something unique, not the traditional thatch-and-stone bushveld lodge.

EKIS Architects created five small units, each with its own unique roof design. The parent’s-, daughter’s- and guest-unit each functions on its own, but is linked to each other by the communal kitchen and living area. The game viewing deck on the first floor gives the owners a panoramic view over the water-hole and surrounding bushveld.

In its entirety, the development resembles a flock of birds rising from the water-hole.
