Welcome to 5th Grade! We are off to a great start! We have 17 stellar scholars in our class this year.
Here's what's happening in August/September:
Testing: We will be wrapping up Dibels and iReady testing this month.
Math: Once testing is complete, we will start a short unit on Volume. Then we will move into place value and decimals to the thousandths place.
Reading: Class Read aloud - Wonder by R.J. Palacio
We will be studying Leaders through a close reading unit this month. Students will read and write about Nelson Mandela, Jackie Robinson, Amelia Earhart, and Nelson Mandela among others. They will read an informational article about the traits of good leaders and apply their reading to their writing.
We will start Word Analysis as well as begin our 10 Minute Fluency/Vocabulary units.
Writing: 5th grade scholars will begin writing character trait analysis and informational essays. They will have their first book clubs this month where they write book club letters about books they are reading independently. We will begin Compound Sentence Imitation.
Social Studies: Students will begin their first Word Generation unit on "Where Do I Belong?" Later this month we will start our Early American Explorers Project.
