Mrs. Hillyard's Home Page

Hello!  Welcome to the 2016-17 school year! I am looking forward to my 37th year of teaching students the magical art of playing stringed instruments!  Thank you for allowing your child this amazing opportunity. Keep supporting and nurturing this gift. It is a gift for a lifetime!

Please feel free to communicate with me at any time.  My email is MHillyar@egrps.org.  I will try to get back to you in a timely manner! Please check your child's corresponding calendar for concert dates and when practice cards are due.

A Listening Requirement Concert is due each marking period for each grade level!  Check the Listening Opportunities Calendar for suggested concerts to attend.  Remember that the idea is to listen to a live performance of the instrument your child is learning to play, played by someone modeling that instrument at a higher level than your child is performing.  They should be watching for various skills that he/she is demonstrating such as vibrato, shifting, dynamics, bowing styles, finger patterns and the like.  The string player(s) need to be the focal point of the concert.  It needs to be a full length concert, not just one selection such as special music at a church service.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if further clarification is needed!  Enjoy the experience of live performance with your child!  It is invaluable!

Please take a moment to fill out the Adult Talent Tally (sidebar) if you haven't already done so!
