Module 1: Collaborative Writing

Welcome to Module 1!

One way to engage our students in the writing process is to provide our students with the opportunity to take part in a shared activity, where everyone's voice is heard.  An opportunity that allows all students to respond to a writing task while also learning from their peers.  As teachers, we also benefit from this shared activity, as we can quickly get a sense of our students' understanding based on their ability to respond to writing prompts.  

By the end of this activity, you will be able to:
  • Create a document that allows simultaneous access from all students
  • Share that document with your class

For this Activity, you will have 25 minutes.  At the end of the activity, we will come back together for a "five minute share".

Activity 2: Independent Learning

1.  Use the videos below to learn how to create your own collaborative document.
2.  After you have learned how to create your document, please move on to activity 3.

I currently do not have a Google account (after viewing this video, check out this video to complete Activity 2)

Activity 3:  Now It's Your Turn!!

1. Create a Google document (choose a quote that's important to you to use as your driving question.  If you would like to search for a quote, click here.)

2.  Share your Google document with James and Nick.  Feel free to share it with your colleagues as well.
