Primetime

Primetime is an academic support class offered at the start of each day (except Wednesdays). The focus of our Primetime class will be reading of nonfiction text.

Our typical week will have the following format:

Daily:

• Monday - Every other week will be Science Literacy Research; Remaining weeks students will complete lessons on iReady.
  • Find & read a current event related to a field of science that you are interested in (students may work on this with a partner if desired) - I will provide helpful links to locate current events
  • Synthesize the information & create a brief Google Slide presentation that highlights the main idea and other criteria
• Tuesday - Study Hall
  • Students will finish creating presentations & will have the rest of class as a study hall
• Thursday - Binder preparation & Read aloud
  • Students will be given class time to organize binders in preparation for Friday’s binder check
  • We will read aloud one historical disaster, watch a short video of the disaster, and answer different comprehension questions based on the reading
• Friday - Binder checks & Science current event presentations every other week; Remaining weeks students will do iReady lessons.

Primetime is our home room class. If there is a fire drill, you will report to me on the field. We will sit with our class during all school-wide assemblies.

GRADING

Over each trimester, letter grades will be entered for assignments completed in class so you can keep track of your progress.

Final posted trimester grade will be pass/fail.

A PASS mark in Primetime will be given to any student that:

• Arrives to class with all required materials :
  • Binder
  • Pencil
• Participates fully in all class activities
• Attends Primetime regularly.

A FAIL mark will be given to students who do not consistently meet all criteria needed to pass.

Primetime is a class valued by Harbor Ridge staff for the time is provides for skill enhancement and homeroom routines. We are looking forward to a fun, productive year.
