About Me

Johnnie Smith is an educator with a background as diverse and varied as the needs of the students he serves.  He is a retired United States Air Force Master Sergeant who served in 8 stateside bases and 4 overseas locations over a 21 year career.  Upon transition to civilian life he finished his degree and pursued a Texas Teaching certification through Region 20’s alternative certification program and taught 6th, 7th, and 8th grade mathematics in his first year of teaching.  After a short hiatus as the Texas State Aquarium’s Education Program Manager, he returned to formal education circles and  taught in Sinton ISD for two years, and Eden Park Academy for two years.  He is President of the Informal Science Education Association of Texas, and a proud member of the Science Teacher’s Association of Texas and the National Science Teacher’s Association.  He was awarded Teacher of the Year, Sinton Elementary, 2008/2009, and is currently pursuing his Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Principal Certification.  His passion for science and teaching is only matched by the contagious enthusiasm of his students.
