Our goal at Compass Academy is to help our math students become mathematicians.  Our facilitators will focus on deep understanding so that any problem can be solved.  Students and facilitators will work together to find solutions using simple to complex math concepts.

Characteristics of Common Core Standards
  1.  Fewer and more rigorous = increased clarity.
  2. Aligned with college and career expectation; prepare all students!
  3. Internationally benchmarked.
  4. Includes rigorous content and application of higher-order skills.
  5. Research based
8 Standards for Mathematical Practice:
  1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
  2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively
  3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
  4. Model with mathematics
  5. Use appropriate tools strategically
  6. Attend to precision
  7. Look for and make use of structure
  8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning
Focus According to Common Core State Standards
  1. Identify key ideas, understandings and skills
  2. Emphasize deep learning of concepts
  3. Counter the “mile wide, inch deep” criticism leveled at most current U.S. standards
The formulation of a problem is often more essential than its solution, which may be merely a matter of mathematical or experimental skill.
