Dear friends,
 
EastLake Serves! exists to help Christians take their next right step in their journey with Christ. Our mission: Offering opportunities to demonstrate the love of Jesus Christ by serving others.

The following serving opportunities are included in this newsletter:

EastLake Serves! Celebration & Park Clean Up Project - Sign up now. On Saturday, May 29, 2010 EastlakeServes! will celebrate our past year's accomplishments with a Park Clean Up Project and Celebration for the entire family, including water balloons, water melon eating contest, potato sack races, and more fun at Mountain Hawk Park. All are welcome, please invite your friends and family. We expect over 100 people to have a great time in fellowship.
Cost: $3.00 will be requested per person to help cover the costs. Cash only at the park on the day of the project. Lunch and water will be included.
Schedule:
  • 10 AM - 12 PM   Park Clean Up: We will work in teams to help clean up Mountain Hawk Park and the surrounding area.
    • Park Clean Up Teams   (10AM -12PM):   All volunteers will participate in the park-clean up
 
  • 12PM - 2PM   Celebration: We will celebrate in fellowship the presence of Jesus throughout our projects at EastLake Serves! during this last year. Don't miss out on all the fun!
What to wear:
  • work gloves
  • pants
  • long sleeve shirts
  • sneakers
  • be ready for a hot day and going through brush

We need volunteers to staff the following teams: 

  • Set-up Team   (9-10 AM):   12 volunteers
  • Registration Team.   (10-12:30 PM)   6 volunteers
  • Food Team   (11 AM - 12:30PM)   8 volunteers
  • Games Team   (12:30 - 1:30)   12 volunteers
  • Take down Team   (2:30 -3:30 PM)   12 volunteers

We also need

  • Crafts for the kids
  • Paints and face paints
  • Someone to volunteer as a face painter - no experience necessary
  • Trash picker devices
Sign Up: To sign-up e-mail the following information to Mike Gleason.
  • First and last names of all volunteers
  • Age of minors
  • Can you also help on one of these teams: Set-Up, Registration, Food, Games, or Take Down?
  • Can you help with any of these: crafts for kids, face paints, trash picker devices?

Mexicali Easter Earthquake Aid: Collection at EastLake Church will only occur during scheduled collection time of Saturday, May 8, 2010 from 9 AM to 12 PM. This will be the last scheduled collection time. To arrange for other pick up or drop off times, contact Blanca or Griselda Buelna

Items Needed:
    FOOD & WATER: baby food, formula, large bags of rice, beans, oatmeal, tuna, pasta, powdered milk, water
    COOKING: used pots, pans
    HYGIENE: baby wipes,diapers, adult diapers, powdered detergent, bars of soap, toilet paper, bleach, toothpaste, buckets, lice shampoo, sanitary napkins, insect repellent

Feeding America Food Bank - Teams of volunteers from EastLake Serves! will head out to the Feeding America warehouse to sort, inspect, and pack food. Children must be 5 or older and accompanied by a parent. To sign up and for more details email titozendejas@eastlakeserves.com.

  • 5/8/10 Feeding America - (Saturday 8AM to 1PM) There is still time to join us. This project is open to all interested volunteers. About 70 volunteers will sort, inspect and pack food at the Feeding America warehouse. For more information or to sign up, contact Tito Zendejas.
 
  • 6/19/10 Feeding America - (Saturday 8AM to 1PM) This project is open to all interested volunteers.  60 volunteers are needed to sort, inspect and pack food at the Feeding America warehouse. For more information or to sign up, contact Tito Zendejas.

Letter Carrier Food Drive- 
Saturday, May 8th is the biggest food drive in the nation. Our nation's mail carriers will be collecting food in their routes. People can give bags of donated food to their mail carrier. The Feeding America Food Bank is requesting volunteers to help with the food drive in Oceanside. Volunteers are needed Saturday, May 8 from 1PM to 5PM. You can go directly to the Oceanside Post Office at 1895 Avenida Del Oro, Oceanside, CA 92056. For any questions you may contact the Oceanside Post Office directly.
 
House Build Projects - Throughout 2010 you will see various housebuild projects. The projects will either be in Mexico (just South of Tijuana) or in National City.  The Mexico housebuild projects will be in support of Youth With A Mission (YWAM). For more information on these projects email: outreach@eastlakechurch.com.  The housebuild projects in National City will be in support of Habitat for Humanity.   • 2010 YWAM Housebuild Projects in Mexico- EastLake Church partners with YWAM in their Homes of Hope program. This cross-cultural ministry provides housing for needy families in Mexico.  To receive more information or to help out financially and sponsor one of the builders, email outreach@eastlakechurch.com. For more information about Homes of Hope, check out the YWAM website. We encourage everyone to make donations in order to sponsor volunteers.
