Warm Up- Pulley Twister

The pulley is a simple machine. It is a wheel with a groove in its outer rim that allows a belt or band to fit on it. Two or more pulleys are used to transfer force, transform speed or change direction. 

In this Warm-Up, build a pulley system to change the direction of movement using a motor. 

Questions to Answer:

• Why is alignment of the two pulleys important? 

• What is an advantage of using pulleys instead of gears? 

• What direction (horizontal or vertical) does one pulley wheel move in  relation to the other?
