Lakeland Pantry
Quick Fact
The Lakeland Pantry distributes to over 500 families each week.

Mary did not see this coming. As Pastor Steve shared with us this past Sunday, there are times when God's plans don't line up with how we expected things to go. Mary never would have dreamed that she would be the one to bring the Messiah into the world. And, after a lifetime of hoping and waiting for a child, Elizabeth never would have expected to be pregnant in her old age.

God's ways are not our ways.

Life rarely seems to go as planned. There is always something that catches us off-guard or that unfolds in a way that we never could have expected. Interruptions to our normal routine always seems to happen sooner or later.  But the question becomes, how will we respond in those times?

We plan, and God laughs...
(We are not in control)

These interruptions remind us that we are not in control.   Of course, we are called to be thoughtful and to do our best to make wise decisions... but in the end, we must put our trust in God. He is in control, and we are not.

We do not plan, and God weeps...
(We are called to participate)

While we should never fall into thinking that we can control our own destiny, this is not to suggest that we are to sit back and become completely passive. God calls us into an active faith, not a passive one. We are called to actively trust in Him, and to respond and participate in what He is doing in our lives.

God's ways are not our ways.   We are not in control.  This life will be full of interruptions and surprises.   But God calls us to trust in Him, to rest in His love, and to follow His ways.  And as we do, we will then reflect that love and trust into the world around us.

May we walk in the Image of God this week!

We Need Your Help!

Looking for a way to help out and get more involved?  Here are three ways you could be a HUGE help:

Cleaning Crews -- Each week, families help out by cleaning the church.  The more families we have to help out, the less often each family is on the rotation.  Would you consider helping out in this area?  If so, please contact  Jani.

Children's Ministry -- Do you have a heart for working with children?  We could always use a few more volunteers to help in the Nursery or with our Children's Ministries.  If you are interested, please contact Arnie.

Lakeland Pantry

Food Pantry -- Every other Thursday, we help serve at the Lakeland Food Pantry from 3pm-6pm. This is a great way to serve and bless others in need.  We could always use a few extra hands. Would you be willing to serve once a month?  If so, please contact Arnie.

Next Elder Board Meeting - January 8th

The next Elder Meeting is scheduled for:

Monday, January 8th at 6:30pm

If you have any issues or concerns that you would like the Elder Board to discuss at the next meeting, please talk to any of the Elders.

Why So Serious?

If you come across an item that you would like to see featured in future segments of "Why So Serious?", please email your submission to

Scripture of the Week

Isaiah 55:8 (NIV) -- "For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the Lord.

My your soul be magnifying the Lord this week!  What a neat look at the interaction between Mary & Elizabeth this past Sunday.

As we approach the 17th, this will be our 10th Annual Christmas program - with specials by the worship team, a shorter devotional teaching, and just a beautiful way to celebrate the Christmas season as a church family!

Our theme for the devotional will be... "Jesus... still the most unwrapped gift ever!"

I hope to see you here if you are in town!
I love being your pastor!
