The Path To Joy.

As Pastor Steve shared with us this past Sunday, as the Angels appeared to the nearby Shepherds with an announcement of Good News, the Shepherds were initially frightened, but eventually this fear was displaced by joy.
The Path to Joy begins with Trust.
God had made countless promises to the People of Israel.  God would act to set things right.  And now, the time had come.  The Messiah would be born.   And, as this message of Good News was being declared by the Angels to this group of Shepherds, they were instructed to go to the manger to see for themselves.  It was an invitation to see, and an invitation to trust.
Trust leads to Obedience.
While the Shepherds were fearful and overwhelmed by the glory of the Angels, they trusted enough to take that first step.  They traveled to the manger to see for themselves if what the Angels had spoken of was actually taking place.
Obedience leads to Participation.
Because the Shepherds trusted enough to take that first step, and followed the instructions given to them by the Angels, they were able to see for themselves that the promises were beginning to be fulfilled.  The Messiah had been born.  And, as they looked upon the newborn Messiah, they were now participating in the Story of God.
Participation results in Joy.
Joy is not a simply a choice or an attitude.  Joy is not a decision, but a destination, a result.  The path to joy begins with trust. As we hear the promises of God and the announcement of Good News, the question becomes - Will we respond?  Do we trust enough to take that first step?  And, as we take that first step of obedience, pressing into whatever we are being called to do, that is when we begin to participate in what God is doing.  And, it is that participation that results in joy. Only as we actively participate, do we experience for ourselves the Life of God and the fulfillment of the promises.
May we walk in the Image of God this week!

Year-End Giving Options

As we discussed at our recent Annual Meeting, Eaglebrook Church is coming up a little bit short in our 2018 finances.

We always want to emphasize that Eaglebrook is not "about the money".  We never want to pressure or manipulate people to give, but we do want to communicate our needs, and create the opportunity to give for who might feel led to do so.  So, for those who might be considering a year-end gift, now would be the perfect time to do so.

If you will be attending our Sunday Services, you can simply give during our weekly offering.  Otherwise, we have a couple of other options for giving.   You can send a check to the following address:

Eaglebrook Church
P. O. Box 144
Woodruff, WI  54568

Or, you can give online through Paypal, using the following link:

We Need Your Help!

Looking for a way to help out and get more involved?  Here are three ways you could be a HUGE help:

Cleaning Crews -- Each week, families help out by cleaning the church.  The more families we have to help out, the less often each family is on the rotation.  Would you consider helping out in this area?  If so, please contact Jani.
Children's Ministry -- Do you have a heart for working with children?  We could always use a few more volunteers to help in the Nursery or with our Children's Ministries.  If you are interested, or want more information, please contact Arnie.
Food Pantry -- Every other Thursday, we help serve at the Lakeland Food Pantry from 3pm-6pm.  This is a great way to serve and bless others in need.  We could always use a few extra hands.  Would you be willing to serve once a month?  If so, please contact Arnie.

Next Elder Board Meeting - January 14th

The next Elder Meeting is scheduled for:

Monday, January 14th at 6:30pm

If you have any issues or concerns that you would like the Elder Board to discuss at the next meeting, please talk to any of the Elders.

Scripture of the Week

1 Peter 1:8-9 (NIV) --
Though you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy, for you are receiving the end result of your faith, the salvation of your souls.

As we round out 2018, and head into 2019 in just a few weeks... may we reflect on the theme of this past Advent Sunday - Joy.

May we make room for all that God may have for us in 2019.  And that may mean a total disruption (just like fostering 2 kids has been a total disruption in our lives... but so rewarding).

Making room breaks us free from our comfort zones.  However, my prayer for you... and for our church... is that the joy of the Lord... which as Mary & Joseph & the Shepherds found out... comes with a bit of disruption... will give us strength as we follow & trust God's plan!

May we enter into... live in... and be givers of... His joy!

I love being your pastor!
