Makerspaces Defined

A Dysart makerspace is an invitation for students and teachers to transform knowledge and ideas into reality through powerful, effective, and engaging learning experiences. Successful makerspaces will:

  • promote learning through innovation, experimentation and engineering.

  • be cross-disciplinary, with elements of art, science and craftsmanship.

  • offer tools and materials that encourage students to create rather than consume.

  • foster an environment for collaboration.

“We can create a workshop or makerspace, and we can acquire tools and materials, but we will not have succeeded at creating innovative thinkers and doers unless we are able to foster the Maker Mindset.”
