PTSA February Update

posted Feb 6, 2019, 1:29 PM by Rehoboth PTSA

We have begun planning the Eleventh Annual Silent Auction.  It will be held on Friday night, March 22nd at Five Bridge Inn.  Volunteers are needed to solicit for donations; to pick up donations and to help during the auction.  Please let us know if you can help.

We need to form a Nominating Committee that will seek eligible candidates to run for election to open PTSA Executive board positions. There will be three board positions vacated at the end of the school year.  The committee members play a vital role in soliciting interest and representing the responsibilities and rewards of serving.  Please let us know if you are interested in joining the Nominating Committee.

Per our by laws, committee chairpersons must be present at the PTSA meeting prior to your event and discuss with membership your Event Planning Form (form is on the PTSA website).  If you or a representative are unable to attend a meeting, please email me your report.

Our next meeting is Wednesday, February 13th at 6:30pm in the library at Palmer River.   We hope to see you there!

Health news:

Health News:

There are a few cases of "flu" being reported in our area.  There is high flu activity in Rhode Island. If your child is not feeling well in the morning, please be sure he/she does not have a fever and is eating and drinking normally before sending your child to school.  We follow the Department of Public Health directive that a student must be fever-free for 24 hours WITHOUT the use of fever reducing medications before returning to school.  Your child should be eating and drinking normally and have the energy to participate fully in the activities of the school day.  AND, it is not too late to consider getting flu shots for your entire family, if you have not done so yet.  Flu season is just beginning!

Holiday parties

posted Dec 12, 2018, 8:06 AM by Rehoboth PTSA

*Handbook Hints*
“The Palmer River Elementary School recognizes that holidays and birthdays are a special day for our students.  While these events do provide a social opportunity, we must also ensure that party celebrations do not disrupt the learning process.  The school and staff are dedicated to ensuring wellness and the overall health of our students in alignment with our district's health and wellness policy.   With this in mind, celebrations with cookies, cupcakes, and other sweets do not support these learning goals and are discouraged.  Refreshments for class parties could include light snacks with an emphasis on healthy snack choices such as cheese, crackers, fruits, and vegetables.  Room parents are encouraged to shift the focus from “food” to a game, craft, or related activity.”
Ways to Celebrate without Food:
• Donate a book to the classroom or school library
• Bring in a favorite book to read and share with the class
• Donate a recess ball or jump rope to be used at recess
• Perform a favorite song or musical piece for the class
• Make a craft with the class • Create a classroom recognition poster
