Mrs. Worth (Bergquist) (Math)

I moved to Denver from Des Moines, Iowa where I have taught middle school math for 5 years. This is my third year at Merrill. My big life event of the summer was getting married! You may see my maiden or married name - Ms. Bergquist or Mrs. Worth.
My goal is to help your student understand the "whys" of math and know how to explain their thinking verbally and in writing, not just rush to an answer!

Name: Sarah Worth (Bergquist)

I will be using the Remind app to communicate reminders throughout the school year.

***Please join the appropriate group based on your childs class so that I can easily send you and them reminders.  Students can also join and text me questions if needed:

Period 1/2: Text @sbergqui to 81010

Period 4/5:   Text @sbergquis to 81010

Period 8/9:   Text @sbergquist to 81010

Ratios and Proportional Relationships

·Analyze proportional relationships and use them to solve real-world \and mathematical problems.

The Number System

·Apply and extend previous understandings of operations with fractions to add, subtract, multiply, and divide rational numbers.

Expressions and Equations

·Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
·Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations.

·Draw, construct and describe geometrical figures and describe the relationships between them.
·Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, and volume.

Statistics and Probability

·Use random sampling to draw inferences about a population.
·Draw informal comparative inferences about two populations.
·Investigate chance processes and develop, use, and evaluate probability models.

Current Unit

We are currently working on our math standard of Expressions and Equations in our book Moving Straight Ahead. Please see Schoology for a calendar of events.

We use the Standards of Mathematical Practice to support student learning.  These 8 skills are used throughout lessons to help students develop their understanding of math.  Our focus this year are practices three and four.

1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them.
 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others.
 4. Model with mathematics.
5. Use appropriately tools strategically.
6. Attend to precision.
7. Look for and make use of structure.
8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

Homework will be assigned nightly, Monday -Thursday.

Please ask your student to Check Schoology for their math homework
Or they should have their homework written in their planner.

Students should also practice on khan academy via the PDF that is linked at the bottom of the page or prodigy.com for at least 20 minutes per week.
