Mrs. Hunter (6th Math)

Welcome to my page for 6th Grade Math!
A bit about me:  This is my fourth year teaching at Merrill Middle School and my 13th year in education.  I have taught all levels of math at Merrill, I enjoy teaching students how to think, explain, apply, and compare / contrast in math.  Students sometimes leave math class feeling like they wrote more than in Lang Arts!  I am from Connecticut originally, and am certainly an East Coaster at heart.  I have been to Space Camp three times.  I am also a "Disney Nerd" - student materials are delivered via Disney popcorn buckets!  I also enjoy taking "run vacations" when I train for a  1/2 marathon and run through a Disney park.  I have two amazing but crazy dogs at home, Sophie and Rufio, and an equally fun husband Eric.

Current Unit
We are currently in our Covering and Surrounding Unit.  In this unit students will calculate area and perimeter of triangles, parallelograms, trapezoids and composite figures.  Students will also recognize nets as support to calculate surface area, and investigate volume when using fractional side lengths and fractional packing cubes.

Honors 6th grade math students who demonstrated proficiency on the pre-test for this unit will be completing a modified version of the 6th grade unit, focusing on their ability to compare, critique, assess, and explain, and will then complete the 7th Grade Unit.

Quizzes and Tests

We have a quiz every Monday covering the week's lessons and covering a previously taught standard to help students keep all their learning in the forefront.  These quizzes are on Illuminate, and by Wednesday, all students can log in to Illuminate to access their grade.
