Mathematically proficient students can:

    • Recognize similarities and patterns in repeated trials with a process.
    • Generalize the process to create a shortcut which may lead to developing rules or creating a formula.
    • Evaluate the reasonableness of results throughout the mathematical process while attending to detail.

Introduction to Business Introduce the Rule of 72 and how long it will take money to double at various interest rates.  Worksheet is attached.
Introduction to Business Discuss students' favorite brands of clothing with them.  Calculate how long it will take them to earn the clothing by working for minimum wage.  Be sure to deduct taxes from gross pay. 
Introduction to Business Determine cost of items purchased at a store if a customer buys multiples of the same item.
Introduction to Business How much allowance (if paid weekly) will they earn in a month?  year?
Computer Apps   Using Excel, calculate their GPA for an 8 period class day.

Personal Finance Give the students a budget and have them throw an end of the year party for the class.  Using Excel, they must create a worksheet that shows all the purchases the entire class party. Require them to spend all the money.
Personal Finance If you use your debit card to purchase $15 of iTunes a month.  How much do they spend in a year?  two years?
