Mathematically proficient students can:

  • Calculate answers efficiently and accurately and label them appropriately.
  • Formulate precise explanations (orally and in written form) using both mathematical representations and words.
  • Communicate using clear mathematical definitions, vocabulary, and symbols.

Create problems where students have to learn to give correct change and have them orally practice giving the change back to each other counting out the correct amounts.

Personal Finance
"Purchase" a car and have the students complete the formulas necessary to figure out financing.  Make sure to label correctly the amount per month/year etc.
Employability Skills
Calculate overtime pay using the correct formula and a variety of different hours worked.
Computer Apps
Using Excel have the students develop a worksheet where they find the value of the MIN, MAX, and AVG.
