Use appropriate tools strategically.

Mathematically proficient students can:

  • Identify mathematical tools and recognize their strengths and weaknesses.
  • Select and use appropriate tools to best model/solve problems.
  • Use estimation to predict reasonable solutions and/or detect errors.
  • Identify and successfully use external mathematical resources to pose or solve problems.
  • Use a variety of technologies, including digital content, to explore, confirm, and deepen conceptual understanding.

Intro to Business Complete a research project on a specific fronchise. Calculate the estimated total start up cost for that specific franchise.

Computer Applications Create a spreadsheet, with corresponding graphs/charts, to estimate/calculate the cost of post-secondary education and potential financial aid.
Personal Finance Using a spreadsheet application, create a monthly personal budget estimating expenses for the month.
Personal Finance Using loan calculating tools, calculate the total cost of a loan for both a new and used car.

Business Law Using word processing and spreadsheet applications, create a contract with all associated costs, such as early termination, late fees, processing fees, etc.
Marketing Using word processing and spreadsheet applications, create a report outlining the sosts asociated with developing a new product.
Accounting Using a variety of accounting tools (Peachtree, Quickbooks, Excel, etc.) create an income statement, statement of changes in owner's equity, and balance sheet.  Evaluate the tools. Determine each tool's strengths and weaknesses.
