Using Data to Drive Literacy Instruction K-3 

This presentation will highlight the connection between assessment and instruction and demonstrate how these two acts work in concert.  Participants will be introduced to a performance-based assessment cycle through data from early literacy classrooms. As you view this session, consider the following:

  • What is assessment?
  • Notice the importance of the purpose of an assessment and ensuring that any assessment given matches that purpose.
  • Notice the elements and descriptions of the assessment cycle. In your building, who is responsible for each element of the cycle? Which elements could be strengthened in your building?
  • What are the implications of data to drive literacy instruction for literacy leaders?
