Goals and Activities

Plan goals are derived and prioritized from analysis of needs assessment data collected. The needs assessment data was reviewed and analyzed by the District Technology Leadership Team (DTLT). The goals of this plan have been developed with the themes and foci of the state Digital Learning Plan in mind. This plan is also directly connected to the Wausau School District's Eight Shared Key Interest of " Identify, integrate, and expand technology to foster adaptability and maximize learning for all" Additionally, the Education Department has a goal of "Identify, integrate and expand technology options to provide learning opportunities anytime, anywhere for 100% of Wausau School District students by September of 2018.". The creation of the plan as well as the planning of the DTLT team meetings and developing needs assessments has been a very collaborative process between the Education Department and the Technology Services Departments. The educational goals of the plan were identified and technology specific goals were developed to provide the hardware, infrastructure, and data systems to support the educational goals of the plan. Highlights of the plan include:
  • Three year goal of getting all schools to a 1:1 level.
  • Create a culture and climate to promote the efficient and effective use of technology
  • Slower implementation of device, early focus on Professional Development.
    • Implement a new P.D. model focusing on a badging concept.
    • Increase leadership capacity through the development of instructional technology coaches/technology mentors
    • Costing in plan currently leverages Comp Day concept
    • Add additional Instructional Technology Integration Specialists to support PD Plan and implementation of instructional technology
  • Replacement schedule for technologies
  • Increase capacities for WAN and Internet Services
    • Develop strategies to reduce operational costs yet provide the flexibility to meet demand
  • Identify inequities for classroom technologies and develop timeline and funding to address current and future replacement needs
  • Provide a plan to provide all licensed staff to have a laptop computer as their primary device
This plan has four goal areas: Pedagogy, Instruction, and Curriculum; Data and Assessments; Professional Learning and Leadership; and Hardware, Infrastructure, and Data Systems. For each goal area, there is a link to an additional page that lists the objectives and action steps to complete the goal.

Goal 1: Pedagogy, Instruction, and Curriculum
Provide educators and students access to digital, standards-driven curricula and opportunities to pursue and share strategies that allows for differentiated instruction and personalized student learning so students learn key 21st century skills: critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, innovation, tech-literacy, and real-world problem solving. Objectives and Action Steps for Goal 1.

Goal 2: Data and Assessments
Utilize balanced assessments that measure students’ knowledge and higher order thinking skills and use formative assessment to differentiate instruction and student learning. Objectives and Action Steps for Goal 2.

Goal 3: Professional Learning and Leadership
Through Professional Growth and Development, create a culture and climate that promotes efficient and effective use of technology in an effort to maximize the impact of digital learning environments.  Objectives and Action Steps for Goal 3.

Goal 4: Hardware, Infrastructure, and Information Systems
Procure, promote, and support hardware, infrastructure and data systems that are affordable, platform agnostic, ubiquitous, redundant, abundant, equal, and adaptable, assuring all learners have access throughout their community, regardless of time or place to "platform agnostic" inter-operable systems that will support ubiquitous cloud based access of educational resources. Objectives and Action Steps for Goal 4.
