Paola Velardi is a Full Professor (retired in 2025) with the Department of Computer Science at Sapienza University of Roma. She currently maintains a research position at Sapienza and serves as a Senior Associate with CNR-ISTC. With a career in Artificial Intelligence starting with her time as a visiting researcher at Stanford University (1983), she is an internationally recognized expert in the field.  Her main research interests are in the areas of text processing, networks, machine learning, and knowledge-bases.  Applications of interest are in the areas of social networks, e-health,  e-learning, bioinformatics, recommender systems, cultural heritage, machine learning for visualization. Among her prestigious roles and honors, a notable highlight is her inclusion—alongside 45 other international female scientists from the past, present, and future—in the Women in Science pavilion of UNESCO’s Virtual Science Museum.
