This year looks to be the best season yet for Desert Hills Cross Country. The competition in Region 9 will be great all year with this region traditionally being one of the toughest regions in the state for 3A. The boy's team looks to build on last years 5th place finish at state. They return 5 of the top 7 Varsity runners for this year. Plus with some new move-ins and young, up and coming runners, this should be the best boy's team ever in the history of the school. The girl's team has 3 of the top 7 Varsity runners back. They have some new young and exciting runners on the team this year. The girls team should be really good as well. Both teams look to compete in Region 9 and then at state. It looks like the 2012 season could be the best year thus far in the history of Desert Hills Cross Country. It will take every team member's commitment to make this the best season ever. Remember, consistency is the key!
Nice job to the boy's cross country team for having a group GPA of 3.5 for the season. The girl's cross country team had a group GPA of 3.7 for the season. Great work staying on top of things in the classroom!
Cedar All-Comers (8/8/12)

Congrats to the Girls team who took 2nd overall for the first meet of the season. Alyse Nelson took 6th overall, Rachel Slade took 7th overall, Gianna D'Alessio took 9th overall and Courtney Allred took 10th overall. Also, a big congrats to the Boys team who took 1st overall with Brigham Whitney taking 3rd overall, Kris Hansen taking 4th overall, Ben Powell taking 6th overall, and Jaren Ashby taking 9th overall. Four out of the top 10 for both the boys and girls teams to start out the year on a great note.
Congrats to the Varsity Girls team for taking 2nd place in the meet today. Courtney Allred took 6th overall and Mackenzie Done tool 9th overall. Congrats to those JV Boys who ran in the Varsity Boys race. They took 4th overall out of 6 schools which is great for only underclassmen running. In the JV Girls race, Elyse Doty and Yasmine Goulding took 5th and 6th overall. This is great for 2 freshmen. Also, in the JV Boys race, Dylan Rountree took 10th overall in his very first race. Lots of personal bests were set today so great job to everyone.
SUU Invite (8/25/12)
What a great meet for the entire Desert Hills Cross Country team! The Varsity Boys took 1st overall, Varsity Girls took 3rd overall (short handed with Alyse Nelson's injury), JV Boys took 2nd overall, and JV Girls took 3rd overall. In the Varsity Boys race Kris Hansen led the boys and took 3rd overall, Brigham Whitney took 4th, Jaren Ashby took 5th, Ben Powell took 8th, and Joshua Sigg rounded out the top 5 with an 11th place finish overall. This gave the boys a whopping 31 points! WOW! In the Varsity Girls race Courtney Allred took 5th overall with MacKenzie Done placing 7th overall. Yasmine Goulding (9th grader) ran the race of the day with a 22:01.60 to place 5th on our girls team. In the JV Boys race, Riley Stewart took 7th overall and Joshua Thatcher placed 9th overall. Solid races for two 9th graders! In the JV Girls race, Chloe Fleischer placed 11th overall just outside the top 10. This was a statement meet for everyone wondering how the 2012 Desert Hills Cross Country team will be. Great meet to build on for the rest of the season so we can accomplish our goals.2012 Herriman Invite (9/14/12)
2012 Dixie Invite (9/4/12)
Congrats to Riley Stewart for taking 9th place overall in the Open Boys race. Also, a big congrats to Courtney Allred (3rd place), Rachel Slade (8th place), and Gianna D'Alessio (9th place) for running well on a very tough course. The grass was long which not makes for fast times. Solid times for everyone on the team.
2012 Murray Invite (9/7/12)
This was the first time we have ever ran the Murray Invite. It is an extremely large meet with a large number of runners and schools in attendance. Nice job to the Varsity Girls team for taking 13th place overall out of 31 teams. The Varsity Boys team took 6th place overall out of 37 schools. They were also the first 3A team out of all the schools. This is a big accomplishment.
This was another meet that we ran for the very first time this year. It is supposed to be one of the toughest, if not toughest, courses in the entire west. I think the team realized after running the race this statement is very true. Especially after running the "Motha Cussa." Micah and Joshua Thatcher took 5th and 6th place overall in the JV Boys race while not even worrying about all the hills. Kris Hansen took 9th place overall in the Varsity Boys race. Courtney Allred took 6th place overall in the Varsity Girls race. This was a very tough course but it will help build team character.
2012 Nebo Invite (9/21/12)
After two tough weeks of racing, the team needed to break out in a big way for this meet. The Frosh/Soph. girls ran well to get everything started with Elyse Doty taking 13th place overall. The Frosh/Soph. boys ran extremely well and took 2nd place overall behind American Fork. This is a huge accomplishment. Joshua Thatcher took 3rd place overall and Kale Sharp took 8th place overall in this race. Kris Hansen took 9th place overall in the Varsity Boys race and led the team to a 4th place team finish overall out of 15 schools. Once again, Varsity Boys took 1st out of all the 3A schools. The Varsity Girls took 9th overall out of 15 schools despite missing 2 key runners. The course measured 3.25 miles so everyone's times were off about 45 seconds. With that being said, the Varsity Boys had Kris Hansen dip under 16:00 minutes for the first time this year with the next 4 boys all under 16:40 for a true 5k. This is a great stepping stone heading into the last couple weeks of the season. Keep working hard team!
2012 Cedar Invite (9/28/12)
Kris Hansen and Brigham Whitney took 6th and 8th overall to pace the Varsity Boys team to a 1st place victory! Joshua Thatcher took 3rd place overall in the JV Boys race. Courtney Allred took 7th place overall in the Varsity Girls race to pace the girls to a 5th place showing. Many personal bests were set today though. Nice job team!
2012 Snow Canyon Invite (10/3/12)
The Varsity Boys and Varsity Girls rested today in preparation for the region meet next week. Joshua Thatcher took 12th overall with a time of 16:22 and Riley Stewart took 17th overall with a time of 16:39. This helped the JV boys take 3rd overall against the rest of the region's Varsity teams. Spencer Ford (8th grader) took 1st place overall in the middle school race. Nice job Spencer! Elyse Doty, Taylor Stewart, Yasmine Goulding, and Staci Leavitt paced the JV girls to a 5th place finish overall against the other Varsity region teams.
2012 Region 9 Meet (10/9/12)
The Region 9 meet was ran at Bicentennial Park in Cedar City this year. Cooler temps and a slight breeze made for perfect conditions. Kris Hansen (4th place), Brigham Whitney (6th place), Joshua McPhie (8th place), Ben Powell (10th place), and Jaren Ashby (15th place) paced the Varsity Boys team to the school's first region championship with 33 points! The Varsity Boys beat Pineview who have not lost a region championship in over 5 years. Great job! Courtney Allred (5th place), MacKenzie Done (13th place) paced the Varsity Girls to a 3rd place finish. Both Varsity teams qualified for state again!!! Micah Thatcher missed out on being JV Champ by one second! He placed 2nd, Dallin Reber (8th place), Riley Stewart (9th place), and Kale Sharp (10th place) paced the JV Boys to a 2nd place finish. Yasmine Goulding (7th place) and Taylor Stewart (12th place) paced the JV Girls to a 2nd place finish. The best meet by far for the entire team all year. It was nice to see both JV teams have a ton of success at this meet. This bodes well for next year's team.
2012 3A State Championships (10/17/12)
Both Varsity teams were excited to run at state this year. The Varsity Girls ended up taking 7th place overall out of 16 schools behind Courtney Allred (14th place). This was the highest the girls have ever placed at the state meet. This is very encouraging since 6 of the 7 Varsity runners ran at the state meet for the first time ever today. The Varsity Boys ended up taking 3rd place overall out of 16 schools and just 10 points behind Wasatch for 2nd place behind Kris Hansen (9th place) pacing the team. This was the highest the boys have ever placed at the state meet as well. Kris Hansen was 1st Team All-State and Courtney Allred was 2nd Team All-State. Great way to finish the season and head into the off season of training in preparation for Nike Southwest and Footlocker. Lots of positives from this season. A new standard has been set for Desert Hills Cross Country this year that must be maintained and built upon each year!
