What is a Dread Scholar?

Dread Scholars are students who stretch themselves as learners and thinkers.  Dread Scholars are:
  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced
  • Reflective

We want EVERY student at Dexter High School to choose rigorous classes and sit for externally moderated exams.  We believe that the advantage of having both AP and IB courses at DHS is that students can find the classes that are right for their learning styles, academic aspirations and career goals.

Dread Scholars are students who take advantage of the classes we offer in a variety of ways.  Some students may choose a single AP or IB class during their years at DHS.  Others will choose multiple AP and IB classes.  Still others will choose to aim for the AP Scholar with Distinction, and some will choose the full IB Diploma.  Regardless of the path they take, we want our students to dare to be Dread Scholars!
