Mrs. Newman’s 1st Grade News

December 5-9, 2016

What’s Happening…

The kids came back excited to share everything that they ate and did over Thanksgiving break.  It sounded like they had a great time.

It seems weird to be in the month of December and hardly any snow.  The warm weather is nice, but is sounds like it might come to an end.  Please make sure that your child has all they need for playing outside when they leave the house.

We finished up learning and practicing inferencing.  The kids did great!  I hope that they are using the strategy when they are reading at home.  Remind them to be “detectives” when they are reading.  We will be moving onto making predictions while we read.

Have you found your children measuring using their feet?  That was our focus this past week.  They measured the rug and other classroom objects using parts of their body.  They also measured by the standard foot and inch.  Next week we will be learning how to tell time to the quarter to and the quarter after.  I encourage you to be practicing counting money, telling time, and counting backwards at home.
