Detroit Lakes Instructional Coaching
RENEE KERZMAN: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
An instructional coach works with teachers to help them incorporate research-based instructional practices. When Instructional Coaches work with students, they do so with the primary goal of demonstrating new effective practices to teachers. In Detroit Lakes, we work through the filter of “If the coach does this task or takes on this responsibility, will it improve instruction?” We have four ICs in DL; we don’t have specialty areas, but we do have strengths. Because PLCs are driven by teachers’ needs, coaches will gladly attend PLCs when invited. Coaches can: help with PLC facilitation, help with curriculum development, help develop assessments, help plan efficient ways to provide feedback, and be a third party sounding board.
