Our Mission

MISSION STATEMENT:

Desiderata School’s mission is to support and foster young minds using a variety of techniques, resources, and teaching styles.

We believe that educational success is the shared responsibility of the student, home, school, teachers, and community. In using customized courses tailored to each student, along with personalized learning schedules, and our belief that any place in which learning takes place is a classroom, Desiderata School strives to demonstrate a more effective approach to learning. By placing the emphasis of our programs on developing critical thinkers capable of not only learning, but also able to; identify information needed, locate viable resources, and apply information gathered to problem-solving, we give our students ownership of their education.

The world truly is our classroom, and Desiderata is every student’s, personal school.

DESIDERATA

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.  As far as possible without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.  Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit.  If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.  Keep interested in our own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.   Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.   But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals,  and everywhere life is full of heroism.  Be yourself.  Especially, do not feign affection.  Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and  disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.  Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.  But do not distress yourself with imaginings.  Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.  Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.  With all it’s sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world

Be cheerful.  Strive to be happy.

OUR BELIEFS ABOUT EDUCATION

WE believe education is the process by which we discover the value of learning in providing quality in our lives.

WE believe personal growth and an inherent desire to learn, develop when students are  involved in experiences engaging their heads, hands, and hearts.

WE believe that what people believe about themselves will ultimately affect what they  learn and how successful their lives will be.

WE believe that each person’s natural growth process is unique and that the discovery of individual learning styles is critical to allowing students to live personally rewarding and fulfilling lives.

WE believe that motivation comes from having personal needs met and that one of the most basic of human needs is the understanding that each person has a special reason for existence.

WE believe that a quality education is one that is applicable to the personal values and goals of each student, provides direction, and gives true meaning and purpose to one’s whole life.
