Thomas Jefferson Middle School, the oldest middle school in the Desert Sands Unified School District, located in Indio, California, opened it's doors in 1947. Today, TJMS is academically focused with the help from outstanding teachers and a supportive administration. We are proud to be ranked a 10 in similar school rank, which is the highest possible ranking.

A message from Assistant Principal Olmos

I am pleased to serve as Assistant Principal of Thomas Jefferson Middle School. The Desert Sands Unified School District Mission of college and career readiness for all students will continue to guide our shared work for the 2015-16 school year. A partnership of parents and staff is essential in preparing students with academic and life skills they will need for the future and, on behalf of all the Home of the Jaguar Middle School staff, it is an honor to partner with you within this strong sense of community.

Parents, I ask for your support as well – please:Have your child attend school each day, and arrive on time; Monitor your child’s homework by reviewing their agendas and communicate with their teachers;

Encourage your child to read at least 30 minutes a night; Ask your child to share what they specifically learned at school each day.

We know that middle school years can be a stressful time for students and parents. It is a critical time with the excitement of seeing old and making new friends, and beginning new classes. We will work hard to make sure that your child’s transition, as well as yours, is as smooth as possible. Reassure your child that middle school is a fun, safe and exciting place to learn, and to take advantage of new opportunities. We have many volunteer opportunities available and always appreciate whatever help you can provide.

TJMS staff and community offer students a rich educational experience that contributes positively to the development of student character and self-worth. The middle school years are a period of unique academic and social transitions and the positive impact we have during this time is powerful and rewarding.
