A Message from Asst. Principal Wright
Dear Parents,

I want to welcome you to the 2014-2015 school years. Your children are attending one of the finest schools. We truly are the best kept treasure in Desert Sands. Thomas Jefferson Middle School was established in 1947. It is the oldest junior high in Desert Sands with long standing
traditions. Our staff is made up of caring, professional educators who give 110% to the kids at this school. Our staff values academics and work hard to promote an academic environment and promote college. As the assistant principal of our school, it is my privilege to help your child be successful at this school.

The beginning of a new school year is a time of renewal. Setting new goals and trying new things. Thomas Jefferson middle school offers many wonderful opportunities for kids and
parents to get involved. Please take some time to review our Parent University Brochure to take valuable classes that can assist you with your child at this school. New this year is our Dad’s University. We welcome all fathers, grandfathers and any male role models to attend. We have many clubs on campus and offer after school programs like ASES where kids can participate in sports as well as get tutoring and assistance with any classes. Junior high can be a bit overwhelming for our youth. So many transitions and so many classes! Please be patient with your child as they adjust to their new environment.

We strive to create a safe environment at our school. We have zero tolerance for bullying and conflict. Desert Sands has an anonymous helpline for any student to report bullying or harassment. The website is www.PSSTWORLD.com.

At home I urge you to be active in your child’s education. Encourage them to read outside of the scope of what is required of him/her throughout the school day. As we continue to develop our skills under the Common Core Learning Standards, the amount and rigor of outside reading will greatly contribute to your child’s success not only in school but in the world outside of the classroom. We anticipate working closely with you and your children throughout the year as they
participate and grow to be responsible, respectful members of our school.

If I can assist you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me at (760) 863-3660 or e mail me at Maria.wright@desertsands.us
