Please read this special message from our Superintendent, Scott L.Bailey, regarding recent events in the news about school safety.

SAFETY ALERT 4/18/18 @ 11:40am

This is Principal Morales informing you that IPD recently issued the following statement on Facebook. The alleged threat was taken seriously by the Indio Police Department and Desert Sands Unified School District and handled expeditiously. We thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We hope to see your child in school possibly later today, if not, tomorrow. Thank you for your help in keeping school safety a priority.

From Indio Police  Department:

As many of you are aware there was an alleged threat made at one of our local middle schools in regards to an act of violence. Any incident that is reported to the Indio Police Department or to the Desert Sands Unified School District is taken seriously and both departments work together to thoroughly investigate the threat. If we determine there to be any credible evidence to suggest an act of violence will take place, parents would immediately be notified as school safety is a priority.

Since the most recent school shooting, there have been a number of rumors around the United States where children begin talking about a school shooting at the school they attend. Locally, any threat we receive has been investigated and has been found to be just that, a rumor. During any contact with any student, we try to remind them that rumors which suggest harm or violence will not be taken lightly and children can be held accountable if it is deemed to be a valid criminal threat. We ask for parent’s cooperation in this manner and to discuss the seriousness of these rumors with their children.

The Indio Police Department currently has four full-time School Resource Officers who work closely with the Desert Sands School District Security Agents to ensure the safety of all students and staff members.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation and remember, if you see something, say something!
