Profe Adkins en ESPANA

Informacion Sobre Profe Adkins

A mí me encanta España!

Espero organizar viajes escolares continuos a Espana.

I began to study Spanish at the age of seven. I spent my academic youth in a variety of classes taught by professors from different Hispanic countries. Following high school I decided to continue language study at the university level. My education involved various trips to Spain where I spent numerous years studying the language and culture. During those years I taught English at the University of Madrid and worked for IBM Scientific Institute. I love the Iberian Peninsula characterized by its culture, history and people.

Prior to moving to Rochester in 2006, I spent ten years in Texas teaching Spanish at the secondary and university levels. My devotion to language acquisition involved an annual student trip to Spain highlighted by nights in castles and days investigating and appreciating the history and culture. We always departed with incredible memories and the dream to return. I hope to organize  subsequent student trips to Spain.

I returned to Minnesota, my native state, in order to continue my professional career with Byron Public Schools teaching Spanish 2 and 3 and 4 at the secondary level. In 2014 my family and I moved to Eyota. At that time I accepted a position to teach Spanish 1-4 at Dover Eyota High School and I am pleased and proud to have the opportunity to work for District 533.

I have a small family. My husband’s name is Jim and he is employed in the financial field and is the love of my life. We will celebrate our 41st wedding anniversary in May 2017. We have a son, Scott who is 34. In June 2006 he decided to move from Texas to Minnesota. He resides in the Twin Cities and is employed by Health East as a computer technical production engineer . Prior to the transfer, he was employed by Dell Corporation in world wide technical support.

We love animals and have a labradoodle "Kokomo", and a parrot,"Dustie". They are extremely enjoyable and provide us with hours of entertainment.

Profe's Teaching Philosophy

Language acquisition is a timely process and following a "paso a paso" (step by step) scope and sequence nurtures the learning adventure one building block at a time. To properly understand and absorb Spanish linguistics the learner must feel accomplished and proactive. Creating a positive learning environment characterized by differentiated instruction that promotes a true experience of the target language and its varied cultures is a primary goal. Language should be "LIVED" and not just studied. My intention is to provide all learners with opportunities to engage in language acquisition while improving their individual skill sets involving speaking, reading and writing. Language acquisition is the key that promotes a life-long appreciation of distinctive world cultures.
